Dozens injured following a brutal intervention against a peaceful protest in occupied city of El Aaiun

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Sept 18, 2012 (SPS) - The Moroccan occupation authorities have repressed on Monday a peaceful demonstration in the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, causing several injuries among the Saharawi protesters, according to Saharawi rights sources.

 

Called by the 11 Saharawi human rights organizations, the demonstration, took place in Matalla neighborhood (occupies Al Aaiun), coincides with the arrival of the the N Special Rapporteur on torture Juan E. Mendez to bring attention to the systematic repression carried out by  Morocco against the Saharawi non violent protesters

 

The Moroccan repressive apparatus, deployed several units composed of police officers, in plain clothes and auxiliary forces and civilian militiamen who "attacked with excessive use of force that caused a large number of casualties and injuries ", sais the source. (SPS)
