Submitted on

Algiers, Sept 24, 2012 (SPS) - The Algerian National Committee of Solidarity with the Sahrawi People (CNASPS) and African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) called Monday in Algiers on the UN to “do its best” inside the Security Council to establish a mechanism for the protection and monitoring of human rights in occupied Western Sahara.

In a meeting held Monday in Algiers, the two institutions recalled that such demand has been requested by several international organizations of human rights such as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Freedom House, RFK Centre for Justice and Human Rights, France Libertés, International Federation for Human Rights and African Citizen Front for Democracy and against the return of colonialism to Africa.

The two sides also appealed to the UN institutions and international ONGs to “put an end to the gross violations of human rights being committed by Morocco in the occupied Saharawi territories.” (SPS)
