Submitted on

Budapest ,March06,2013(SPS)  The Central and Eastern European Alliance for the Solidarity with the Saharawi People called for the immediate release of the civil Sahrawi activists against whom unjust sentences were recently pronounced by the Moroccan military court after the events of Gdeim Izik.

The Alliance called on the international community to “act immediately to stop the suffering of the Sahrawi political prisoners convicted because of their political positions which advocate the respect of the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.”

The statement also denounces “the torture and rape against prisoners in the Moroccan jails, in addition to the daily crimes committed by the Moroccan occupying forces against the Sahrawis in the occupied cities and south of Morocco.”

The Alliance requested an “international investigation into the events that occurred in Gdeim Izik camp” and the setting-up of a UN mechanism for human rights monitoring and protection in Western Sahara.(SPS)
