Shaheed Al Hafed (refugee camps), March 22, 2013 (SPS) - Office of the POLISARIO National Secretariat has welcomed the visit initiated by the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy Mr. Christopher Ross to the region, reiterating POLISARIO’s readiness to cooperate with UN efforts aimed at the decolonization of Western Sahara, through a free, just and impartial referendum on self-determination for the Saharawi people.

In a meeting on Thursday chaired by the President of the Republic Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, the Office indicated that the Security Council cannot remain silent before the ongoing grave violations of human rights committed by the Moroccan State in the case of defenseless Saharawi civilians.

It also recalled to the unfair military trial, which lacks legitimacy and the terms of a fair trial, against the group of Gdeim Izik, of which 25 Saharawi political prisoners, urging the United Nations to intervene to cancel the unjust verdicts against them, and to work in favour of their release, along with all the Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails.

It, therefore, denounced the crippling restrictions and siege imposed by Moroccan state over the occupied Western Sahara, last of which was the expulsion of a group of European parliamentarians from Casablanca airport, in their way to occupied El Aaiun, earlier this month. (SPS)
