Boumerdes (Algeria), Aug 24, 2013 (SPS) - “The drugs, which come from Morocco, threatens security of peoples of the region,” said Saturday Colonel Omar Ben Djena, Secretary General of the Algerian Strategic Studies Centre, adding that Morocco’s drugs revenues exceed more than $ 20 billion annually, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
In a lectured presented today at the 4th Summer University of SADR Cadres held In Boumrdes (near Algiers), Colonel Ben Djena indicated that Morocco poisons the Sahel region and Algeria with drugs, adding that Morocco constitutes a crossing point for cocaine coming from Latin America.
The lecturer underlined that the most serious result of this scourge is the use of arms by drug barons, which has a close link with terrorist groups, highlighting that this poses risks on Algeria and the Sahel region.
“Morocco is the most important exporter and producer of this scourge, given that Morocco has very large areas dedicated to the cultivation of cannabis, or what is known as the cocaine substance.” said Mr. Ben Djena.
He went on saying that Moroccan political figures and members of the royal palace are involved in these dangerous operations. (SPS)
