Sahrawi political prisoners go on hunger strike

Submitted on

Tiznit (Morocco) January 4, 2014 (SPS) - Sahrawi political prisoners, known as group of Sahrawi national flag, went on indefinite hunger strike on Thursday in the local prison of Tiznit, Morocco, in protest of the “squalid” conditions in the prison, according to the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Community Abroad.

The political prisoners demand medication, open visits, balanced nutrition, sleeping beds, Pursuing study, access to newspapers and exchange of letters abroad, according the same source.

This step comes after exhausting all channels of dialogue with the prison administration, prompting the executive of the prison to threaten the political prisoners and transfering one of them, Daoudi Taha, to a room packed with prisoners of public right to isolate him from others, the source added.

It should be recalled, the group of Sahrawi National flag was arrested in the last month of Ramadan in Gleimim, southern Morocco, on the background of clashes that took place following football league match between neighborhood teams, erupted between Moroccan security forces and settlers from one side and Sahrawi activists on the other.
