Paris (France), February 21, 2014 (SPS) - A meeting advocating the release of the Sahrawi and Moroccan political prisoners and denouncing the violation of human rights by Morocco was held Thursday in the French capital.

This meeting, organized on the occasion of the 9th anti-colonial week, was devoted this year to the support of the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.

The meeting was led by Regine Villemont, secretary general of the Association of Friends of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic and Ayad Ahram, head of Association for Human Rights Defence in Morocco (ASDHOM).

In this regard, she wondered whether the Security Council will renew the mandate of the United Nations Mission for Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) which will expire of April 30.

Regarding the situation of the Moroccan political prisoners in Morocco, Ayad Ahram said that his association recorded 261 cases of political prisoners so far, including 94 who are still waiting for trial. (SPS)
