Ross concludes his visit to Saharawi refugee camps

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), March 6, 2014 (SPS) - Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara, Mr. Christopher Ross, conlcuded Wednesday night on-day visit to the Saharawi refugee camps, as part of his new tour in the region to give impetus to the stalled peace process in Western Sahara.


The UN envoy held several meetings with the Polisario Front leadership, led by the President of Republic Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz.


During his visit, Mr. Ross held two working sessions with the Saharawi delegation to the negotiations with Morocco.


In a statement to the press on Wednesday, head of the Saharawi negotiating delegation Mr. Khatri Addouh urged the international community and UN to assume full responsibilities towards the Saharawi people.


He also said that the negotiating delegation of the Frente Polisario renewed to Mr. Ross the Saharawis party’s readiness to cooperate with the UN in order to end the occupation of Western Sahara, on the basis of the respect for international legitimacy, the UN Charter and Saharawi people’s rights to self-determination.
