Submitted on

Madrid, March 20, 2014 (SPS) -Spanish House of Representatives has called on its government to formally recognize the Polisario Front, the legitimate representative of the Saharawi people, as does the United Nations.

In a parliamentary proposal recently submitted to the Spanish Parliament, MP Rosana Pérez Fernandez, from the Galician Nationalist Bloc, called on Madrid to support the recognized-right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, through a free and democratic referendum in accordance with international law and UN resolutions.

She asked the Spanish parliament to work with the UN Security Council so that the MINURSO Mission be able to monitor human rights in Western Sahara, calling on the Moroccan state to immediately cease its abuses against the Saharawi citizens, free all Saharawi political prisoners, stop the plundering of Saharawi natural resources and allow the access into the territory for international observers.

She, moreover, appealed to the Spansh government to redouble its humanitarian aid for the Saharawi refugees. (SPS)
