El Aaiun (occupied territories), April 22, 2014 (SPS) - Dozens of Saharawi protestors came out Sunday in peaceful demonstration held in the beach of Foum el-Oued (which means; mouth of the valley) western of the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, to demand freedom and independence of the Saharawi people.
Holding Saharawi flags and chanting pro-independence slogans, the Saharawi demonstrators called for the “immediate and unconditional” release of all Saharawi political detainees, incarcerated in the horrific prisons of Morocco.
They also underscored the need to expand the mandate of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to include human rights monitoring.
Moroccan repression forces, including the royal gendarmerie and auxiliary forces, dispersed the demonstration, before its participants being chased. (SPS)
