Prime Minister "satisfied" with Security Council's resolution

Submitted on

Dakhla (Refugee Camps)- Prime Minister Abdelkader Taleb Omar on Wednesday expressed satisfaction with the resolution of the United Nations Security Council though it does not provide for the extension of the mandate of the UN Mission for Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to include human rights monitoring in the occupied Sahrawi territories.

"If the resolution has extended MINURSO's mandate to human rights monitoring we would have dubbed "excellent," he said at the opening of the 11th edition of the International Film Festival in Western Sahara (FiSahara).

Saharwi people hoped that "MINURSO would have the mandate, like other UN peacekeeping missions, to monitor human rights," he added.

The Sahrawi PM said that the resolution is a "warning for Morocco to make serious progress in talks." (SPS)
