Sahrawi political prisoner Yahia Mohamed El Hafed ends hunger strike

Ait Meloul (Morocco), June 9, 2014 (SPS) - Sahrawi political prisoner Yahia Mohamed El Hafed has ended his hunger strike following an agreement by the prison authorities at Ait Meloul prison in Agadir, Morocco, to discuss his demands, confirmed Monday a statement of British NGO AdalaUK.

 

The statement also confirmed that the prison authorities have bowed to his demand to be transferred to another prison with better conditions for detainees.

 

Yahia Mohamed El Hafed, a member of the Collective of Saharawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA), was arrested on March 01, 2008, and sentenced to 15 in prison for participating in peaceful demonstration calling for the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence. (SPS)
