Spain's new King urged to assume his country’s historical responsibility towards Sahrawi people

Submitted on

Galicia (Spain), June 10, 2014 (SPS) - Representative of Polisario Front in Spain Bechraya Hammoudi Beyoun said in Galicia that Spain holds the solution of the Western Saharan conflict as long as there is a strong political willingness among the Spanish officials.

Speaking before the participants in a seminar on the Sahrawi issue which was held at Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle University, the Sahrawi official said that the abdication of Spain’s King Juan Carlos and the new political configuration after the recent European elections are an appropriate opportunity for the Spanish State to “correct the error” made in the mid 1970s at Juan Carlos’ accession to the throne.

The Sahrawi official underlined that the new data can help the major Spanish traditional parties to take decisions about the Saharawi issue, emphasizing Spain’s “full responsibility” in Western Sahara.

He also stressed that Spain has always been responsible for the territory under the international law, particularly as the United Nations do not recognize Madrid’s agreements. (SPS)
