UK government called to “publicly” condemn human rights violations committed by Moroccan authorities

Submitted on

London, October 6, 2014 (SPS) - Adala UK has called the UK government to publicly condemn the human rights violations committed by the Moroccan authorities in the occupied Western Sahara, in a letter sent to Foreign Secretary Mr. Philip Hammond.

“We hope the UK government will publicly condemn the human rights violations committed by the Moroccan authorities, with particular reference to the tragic case of Hasana El Wali,” said the UK-based NGO campaigning for human rights in Moroccan-occupied Western Sahara.

It demanded the immediate release of all Saharawi political prisoners and the implementation of the resolutions of the United Nations, in particular the referendum on self-determination.

In other letter to the Moroccan embassy, Adala UK urged the Moroccan government to “ensure that these political prisoners are released with immediate effect and unconditionally, that the use of torture is abandoned immediately and that basic health and hygiene standards are observed across all Moroccan prisons”.
