New York (United Nations), October 14, 2014 (SPS) - Mr. Ramadhan M. Mwnyi, deputy permanent representative of the United Republic of Tanzania reiterated call Friday before the UN Decolonization Committee for resolving the question of Western Sahara once and for all.

“With regard to the question of Western Sahara, let me reiterate the appeal I made last year, at the UNGA, to the UNSC to do everything within its power to resolve this problem once and for all,” he said citing what their Head of Delegation had to say while addressing the general debate last month.

The United Republic of Tanzania also reiterated its “unwavering” support to the “noble” course of self-determination of the Sahrawi people in line with the United Nations resolutions.

It welcomed and commended the ongoing efforts and commitments of the UN Secretary-General and his envoy as well as other initiatives undertaken by the African Union towards a lasting and peaceful solution to the question of Western Sahara.

Tanzania called upon the parties to continue negotiations under the auspices of the Secretary-general without preconditions and in good faith, with a view to achieving a just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution, which provides for self-determinations of the Sahrawi people in the context of the United Nations charter.  (SPS)
