Saharawi workers celebrate National Day of Workers

Shaheed Elhafed, October 20, 2014 (SPS) Saharawi workers celebrated Monday the workers’ National Day, which coincides with the operation of detonating the conveyor beltofBucraa phosphate in El Aaiun, on October 20, 1974, to stop the illegal exploitation of Saharawi resources.

 

In a statement, the GeneralUnion of Saguia El Hamra and Rio de Oro (UGTSARIO) expressed its warmest felicitationto all Saharawi workers on this day and its solidarity and support tothe Saharawi workers in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

 

 The Saharawiworkers union appealed to international public opinion and trade unions and the international labor movement in particular to intervene to stop the illegal exploitation of Saharawi natural resources.

 

It also expressedits condemnation of violations of human rights and labor rights of Saharawis living under the Moroccan occupation.

 

TheUGTSARIO warned all foreign companies which are involved with the Moroccan authorities in the illegal exploitation of the natural resources in Western Sahara, condemning "vigorously" fisheries agreements between the EU and Morocco which include the territorial waters of Western Sahara. (SPS)
