Submitted on

Chahid Al hafed (refugee camps), Feb 10, 2015 (SPS) - The Council of Ministers on Tuesday welcomed the resumption of mission of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Mr. Christopher Ross, and assumption of the duties of Ms. Kim Bolduc, Special Representative for Western Sahara and Head of MINURSO.

In a communiqué concluded its meeting, the Council renewed the Saharawi party’s good faith to continue cooperating with the efforts of the United Nations within “a strict and clear framework” aimed at the decolonization of Western Sahara, and takes into consideration the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to a free, impartial and fair referendum on self-determination.

It also deplored the gross violations of human rights being committed against innocent Saharawis by the Moroccan occupying state, asking to speed up the establishment of a UN mechanism to protect, monitor and report about human rights situation in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

The Council, therefore, called for the release of all Saharawi political prisoners, currently languishing in Moroccan jails. (SPS)
