Valencia (Spain), Feb 17, 2015 (SPS) - The Socialist International Mediterranean Committee has decided, at the end of its meeting convened on 13-14 February 2015 in Valencia (Spain), to send a mission to Western Sahara next May.
This mission will be headed by Antonio Yáñez, former diplomat from the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE).
In a final communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the Socialist International said the aim through the visit is to contribute to supporting the UN-led series of negotiations.
Saharawi Minister Delegate for Europe Mr. Mohamed Sidati, for his part, described the move as “an important one going on the right direction.”
Recalling to the alarming human rights situation in Western Sahara occupied territories, the official stated that Morocco is adopting a strategy based on intransigence and violence so to undermine the UN peace plan in Western Sahara.
The mission will prepare a report to the Assembly of the Organizations about findings of the visit.
To note, a Saharawi delegation, composed of Minister Delegate Mohamed Sidati, Polisario Front Representative in Spain Buchraya Bayun and the Representative in Valencia Assad Al-Mami, took part in this meeting. (SPS)
