Saharawi political prisoner begins open hunger strike

Tiznit (Morocco), Feb 18, 2015 (SPS) - The Saharawi political prisoener, Abdellahi Boukyud, on Wednesday started an open hunger strike in protest to the physical assault and verbal abuse he experienced inside the Moroccan Prison of Tiznit, said a source of the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad.


Boukyud was arbitrarily arrested in the city of Guleimim, southern Morocco in 2013. He is now serving a 4-year prison term.


The prisoner was arrested due to his political attitudes towards the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence.


In relevant context, five Saharawi prisoners, currently languishing in the Moroccan jail of Inezgane, enters 8th day of hunger strike. (SPS)
