Rome (Italy), April 10, 2015 (SPS) - The Italian Chamber of Deputies (Parliament), while discussing Italy's participation in the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), has approved recently two motions of support for Western Sahara people.

The first motion provides for Italian government's assessment of "the opportunity to resume, as quickly as possible, Italian participation in MINURSO and support actions in favour of Saharawi people, and for continuing diplomatic activity to reach a fair solution to Western Sahara issue."

The second motion provides for Italian government's "checking of the opportunity not to interrupt participation in MINURSO" and "for making efforts in international bodies to get MINURSO's prerogatives extended to mainly include human rights monitoring."

The two motions have been inserted in a final statement adopted by the Italian Chamber of Deputies, defining the level of Italy's participation in UN peacekeeping missions and determining the budget allocated for the period between January 1 and September 30, 2015.
