Sahrawi woman takes part in ECOSOCC Standing Committee’s meeting

Khartoum, May 28, 2015 (SPS) - The Secretary General of Saharawi Women Union (UNMS), Ms. Fatma El Mahdi, has participated in a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of the African (ECOSOC), kicked off Wednesday in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.


The meeting assessed ECOSOC’s work in the past year and the forthcoming stages, especially the action plan to complete the representation of others countries yet to be members of the ECOSOC.


It also examined the importance of expediting the accreditation of ECOSOC delegates at countries’ level.


ECOSOCC Standing Committee decided to delegate Ms. Fatma El Mahdi of the Saharawi Republic (SADR), in her capacity as the Chairperson of the Committee on Women and Gender, in the twenty-fifth ordinary summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, scheduled to be held in South Africa in mid-June.


ECOSOCC is composed of 150 organizations representing civil society movements from all Member States of the African Union. (SPS)
