“4,400 days in the dark”: Spanish documentary on ordeals of Saharawi activist Sukeina Dejd Ahlou in prisons

Zaragoza (Spain), July 7, 2015 (SPS) - The sufferings endured by the Saharawi human rights activist Sukeina Djed Ahlou in the prisons of the Moroccan occupier were the main focus of the documentary, screened recently in Zaragoza (Spain) entitled “Sakina Djed Ahlou, 4,400 days in the dark.”


Directed by Laura Sipan and produced by the Uruguayan observatory of support to Western Sahara, this documentary, screened in the presence of the activist Sakina, shed light on the sufferings of the Sahrawi activist in the Moroccan prisons, particularly the torture and ill treatment which are contrary to the respect of human dignity.


Throughout the various periods of incarceration in the prisons, notably at carcel negra, where she was subjected to psychological, moral and material violence, the documentary highlights the resistance and courage of Sakina, also president of the Forum of Sahrawi women’s future, who remained committed to her principles and defended fervently the just cause of her country and people.
