UN Security Council expresses its full support for Ban Ki-moon's visit to Western Sahara

Bir Lahlou(liberated territories of SADR), February 11,2016 (SPS) .- The United Nations Security Council voiced Wednesday its full support for the planned visit of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to Western Sahara, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

At the initiative of Venezuela, that chairs the Security Council for the month of February, the Council addressed on Wednesday afternoon February 10, the question of Western Sahara and its latest developments.
 

At the meeting, the Council was briefed by Assistant Secretary-General of the Political Department, Jeffrey Feltman, on the decision of the Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to visit Western Sahara and the region as part of the efforts of the UN to resolve the conflict in Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa illegally occupied by Morocco.

 

Members of the Security Council expressed their full support to the Secretary-General's visit  planned for March.


 

Unanimous support of the council takes place at the time that Morocco has deployed all efforts and maneuvers to prevent the travel of the Secretary General of the UN to Western Sahara.


 

Before the Council meeting, the Polisario Front Representative to the UN, Ahmed Bujari, was received by the President of the Security Council. (SPS)
