Algiers, March 02, 2016 (SPS) - The president of the party of the Union of Gabonese People (PUPG), Moukagni Iwangou Jean de Dieu underlined Tuesday, in Algiers, the urgency to settle the conflict in Western Sahara to get rid of the legacy of colonialism in Africa, considering that the self-determination referendum “is a fundamental right of the Sahrawi people.”
Invited to a conference hosted by the National Republican Alliance (ANR), Moukagni said that “the Sahrawi issue is an African matter,” considering that Africa must get rid of the legacy of colonialism, particularly those related to conflicts.
At the head of the Gabonese delegation participating in this meeting, the PUPG President stressed that Africa must play an active role in the resolution of the conflicts it faces, particularly the Sahrawi conflict which has lasted too long, underlining that the self-determination referendum “is a fundamental right of the Sahrawi people.”
Moukagni underlined that the Sahrawi State is a “real State” and that it has all the marks of a State but it is subject to a colonialism that despoils its lands, adding that the Sahrawi State “is a reality that should not be ignored if we want, as Africans, to work for a better future for the continent.”
On this occasion, he also reviewed the various steps that the central African region went through and the historic references that his party relies on to support the Sahrawi people, underlining that the Gabonese people “are anti-colonialist and support the liberation movements in Africa.”
He also wished for a real rapprochement between the Gabonese civil society and its Sahrawi counterpart for the best interests of both parties.SPS
