Sahrawi civilian prisoner subjected to abuse and mistreatment by Moroccan prison administration

Asfi (Morocco) - Sahrawi civilian prisoner Abdelmoula Mohamed El Hafed, a member of the student group, has been subjected to mistreatment and threats by the so-called prison director, according to Sahrawi human rights sources.

According to the same source, on November 19, the administration of the local prison in Asfi threatened further discriminatory and punitive measures from the prison director.

The family of the Sahrawi civilian prisoner reported that he has been subjected to a policy of restriction and racial discrimination within the prison, including a reduction in the duration of phone contact with his family.

Since his transfer from the local prison of Ait Melloul to the prison in Asfi (both located in Morocco), he has been the target of various racist and provocative practices and has conducted several open hunger strikes, the last one on April 1, 2024, to protest against the deplorable detention conditions.
