Dakhla camp receives basic supplies, shelter tents, and rescue units

Chahid El-Hafed (Sahrawi Republic) 23 September 2024 (SPS)– Early this morning, Dakhla camp was provided with basic supplies, shelter tents, and rescue teams to assist those affected by the heavy rainfall that has continued throughout Sunday and Monday in the Sahrawi refugee camps.

A member of the emergency committee told SPS that Dakhla camp was supplied with essential needs such as bread, milk, and other basic nutrition items, in addition to tents to shelter those affected. Rescue units already in the province were also reinforced to help the families impacted.

The same official added that the province has also been supported with ambulances, along with a fleet of trucks and equipment from various governmental institutions, to rescue those affected by the floods, which have caused damage to homes and public buildings.

On another hand, the same source indicated that a high-level delegation is present in the affected camp since Sunday, headed by the President of the Republic and Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, accompanied by the head of the Polisario Political Secretariat, as well as the Ministers of Interior, Education and Vocational Training, and the National Director of Infrastructure, alongside the Sahrawi Red Crescent. This delegation is on the ground to assess the damage and closely monitor the situation.

The Sahrawi Red Crescent had previously stated that homes and public buildings in the province had suffered damages due to flooding, and families had been displaced to safe areas outside the camps. (SPS)
