Addis Ababa (African Union), March 15, 2024 (SPS) - The Sahrawi Republic participated in the Extraordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council held on Friday in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, with a delegation led by the member of the National Secretariat and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Sidati.
The meeting of the Council discussed the revised report submitted by the Committee of Permanent Representatives, which had been working since March 11 until yesterday, Thursday, in an extraordinary session to study the various options and procedures proposed in the framework of the amendments to the elections for the leadership of the organization.
The Permanent Mission of the Sahrawi Republic to the African Union participated during the week in the deliberations of the Extraordinary Session of the Committee of Permanent Representatives, and also presented a joint position on behalf of the countries of the Northern Region, of which the Sahrawi Republic is the Dean.
In addition to the Sahrawi Foreign Minister, the following participated in this extraordinary session of the Executive Council: the Permanent Representative to the African Union and Ethiopia, Mr. Lemine Baali, the Ambassador Deputy Permanent Representative, Mr. Malainin Lekhal, and the Press Attaché at the Embassy, Mr. Abdallah Rguibi.
The Sahrawi delegation participating in this extraordinary session held several bilateral meetings with Foreign Ministers and Heads of several delegations, during which they discussed their views on the topic under discussion, in addition to discussing ways to develop and strengthen bilateral relations between the Sahrawi Republic and these countries.
