Sahrawi Republic participates in the AU Financial Institutions Consultative Forum

Lusaka (Zambia), December 13, 2023 (SPS)- The Sahrawi Republic participates in the African Union Financial Institutions Consultative Forum held in the Intercontinental Hotel, Lusaka, Zambia, on December 13–15, 2023.

The forum gathers participants from the African Union, Ministries of Finance, Central Banks, African Union Organs and Specialised Agencies, Regional Economic Communities, the Association of African Central Banks, African Securities Exchanges Association, and development partners.

The African Union Financial Institutions Consultative Forum will examine avenues to accelerate the establishment of the institutions, which are keys to accelerating regional integration and socio-economic development and play a key role in the mobilisation of resources and management of the financial sector.

The Forum will discuss the economic and political challenges impeding the Member States' ability to sign and ratify legal instruments establishing the financial institutions and the constraints that restrain the continent from collectively pooling their sovereignty in order to mutualise their efforts and resources for the establishment of the AUFIs. It will also formulate a strategy to generate the much-needed consensus and enhanced political will on key issues and galvanize the momentum towards the establishment of the AUFIs.

The Sahrawi Republic is represented at this forum by the representative of the Ministry of Economic and Financial Affairs, Mr. Salek Mohamed Al-Mustafa.
