Addis Ababa, 16 Oct 2017 (SPS) The Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) on the African Union-European Union Summit to be held in Abidjan on November 29-30, was launched Monday in Addis Ababa, in the presence of a delegation of the Saharawi Republic led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed-Salem Ould-Salek.
The session was opened by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guinea, in his capacity as president of the Executive Council, as well as the president of the AU Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat.
In his opening remarks, the president of the Executive Council placed special emphasis on the importance of the partnership between the African Union and the European Union and the need to seize the next summit in November to further strengthen this partnership.
For his part, the Chairperson of the AU Commission stressed that all member states of the African Union should join their efforts to ensure the success of this summit.
The Sahrawi delegation comprised, besides the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed-Salem Ould-Salek, Hamdi Khalil Meyara and Mohamed Lamine Baali, respectively: Minister Delegate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of African Affairs and the Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU.
