POLISARIO calls on EU Council to implement the ECJ ruling

Bir Lahlou (Liberated Territories), January 22, 2017 (SPS) - The President of the Republic,Secretary General of the Frente POLISARIO, Mr. Brahim Gali, sent a letter this week to European leaders following the ruling of the European Court of Justice on 21 December 2016 that found "that the association agreements and liberalization between the EU and Morocco are not applicable to Western Sahara" .
 
The Secretary-General of the POLISARIO states in his message to Joseph Muscat, Prime Minister of Malta and President of the Council of the European Union, that the Court of Justice of the EU stated that "the people of Western Sahara have not given their consent" through its sole and legitimate representative, the Frente POLISARIO, "that these agreements are implemented in Western Sahara."
The Saharawi president calls for an analysis "of the status of the protocol of understanding signed in 2013 between the European Union and the Kingdom of Morocco, for now" the management of fishing rights must be treated in accordance with the judgment of 21 December 2016 ".
The same message was addressed to the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Nicholas Westcott, Executive Director for the Middle East and North Africa in the European External Action Service (SEAE), in an exchange of views with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET) has stated that "the ECJ judgment is binding on the EU and its Member States, we live in a state of law, and every decision of justice must be respected."
