Quito (Ecuador), January 19, 2017 (SPS) -The Ecuadorian Confederation of Clasists Organizations For Workers’ Unity (CEDOCUT), the General Union of Workers of Ecuador (UGTE) and the Popular Front, reiterated their commitment and support to the demands of the Saharawi people and, in particular, to the demands of the General Union of Saharawi Workers (UGTSARIO), to accompany and promote the defence of the right to self-determination and full independence and Saharawi sovereignty over Western Sahara, which majority party of its territory has been illegally occupied by the Kingdom of Morocco for approximately 41 years.
Messias Tatamuez Moreno (CEDOCUT), José Villavicencio (UGTE) and Nelson Erazo (Popular Front), the top leaders of these trade union and popular organizations reaffirmed the political-institutional will to twin efforts through their regional and international subsidiaries, to denounce to the world community the systematic abuses of the Moroccan repressive forces against Saharawi workers in the occupied territories and the difficult conditions that Saharawi workers face on a day-to-day basis in the Saharawi refugee camps.
In a dialogue with Hafdala Ch. Brahim, Chargé d'affaires of SADR Embassy in Ecuador, and Pablo de la Vega, coordinator of the Ecuadorian Association of Friendship with the Sahrawi People, agreed to identify procedures for advancing in The creation of an "inter-union platform for the rights of the Saharawi people", together with other Ecuadorian trade union federations that have long supported the mandate of MINURSO to organize and convene a referendum to achieve the independence of the Saharawi people, Struggle for human rights and the end of the Moroccan plundering of Saharawi natural resources.
This initiative will also include the Ecuador Workers Confederation (CTE) and its provincial affiliates, including the Manabí Provincial Workers Federation (FPTM), which maintain strong relations with UGTSARIO, as well as other trade union centers to which this proposal will be extended. SPS
