UNMS SG among four women work for world peace, security and human rights (Turkish daily news)

Shaheed El-Hafed (Refugee Camps), Dec 10, 2016 (SPS) - The well-known Turkish daily Yeni Şafak has named member of the National Secretariat of the POLISARIO and Secretary General of the Union of Saharawi Women (UNMS) Ms. Fátima al-Mehdi at the top of a list of four Muslim women who work for peace, security, stability, human rights and provide a valuable service to the peoples of the world.
The list includes, in addition to Ms. Fatima al-Mahdi, Syrian journalist Maisá Abu Hassan, Afghan parliamentary Fawzi Cove, and South American parliamentaryTere IIanca.
The Turkish newspaper devoted much of its article to Ms. Fatima al-Mahdi, who also serves as the head of the Women and Gender Committee of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of the African Union.
The newspaper shed light on the Sahrawi issue and the prominent role of women in Saharawi society, particularly in the political social and economic fields. It also addressed the situation and suffering of Sahrawi refugees and the tragedy experienced by the Sahrawi people as a result of the Moroccan military invasion of Western Sahara. (SPS)
