Submitted on

Lisbon (Portugal), Nov.  5, 2016 (SPS) - Portuguese President Mr. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa stressed that the situation in Western Sahara deserves greater attention from the Government of the Portuguese Republic.
It came in a response to a letter from Adala UK in Portugal, in which it demanded the release of Sahrawi political prisoners in particular the group of Gdeim Izik and enabling the people of Western Sahara to exercise their right to self-determination.
The Portuguese president highlighted that he takes into account the provision of Article 135 of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic and that the government implements the Portuguese foreign policy. Accordingly, in this context, the content of the message was sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is the competent public authority in dealing with these issues on behalf of the President of the Republic, he added.
