Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), 10 April 2016 (SPS) - African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPCS) called for "activating" the Committee of the Wise on Western Sahara, made up of African leaders, to speed up decolonization process in the territory.
At a meeting Wednesday on Western Sahara, AU Council of Peace and Security has called for the "activation" of Africa's Committee of the Wise on Western Sahara in order to undertake consultations with the concerned parties and reach, as soon as possible, a solution to the Saharawi issue."
The council mentioned the decision taken at the 496th meeting, on 27 March 2015, about the creation of an international contact group on Western Sahara to "further mobilize support for the Saharawi cause, in favour of Western Sahara people's right to self-determination."
African Union Peace and Security Council said it supports the holding of a donor conference next May in Geneva.
The meeting will address the sufferings of Saharawi refugees and discuss how to improve their living conditions, in addition to mobilization of humanitarian aids for the refugees. (SPS)
