AU maintains support to Western Sahara self-determination despite Trump’s proclamation

Addis Ababa (African Union) 12 December 2020 (SPS)- The African Union maintains it position on Western Sahara, despite President Trump’s proclamation supporting Moroccan occupation.
Ms. Ebba Kalondo, Spokesperson of AU Commission chair, Moussa Faki Mahamat, said on her official Twitter account after Trump's twitts, that the AU supports the self-determination of Western Sahara through a free and fair referendum as decided by the UN Security Council.

ARTifariti 2020 kicks off vía online platforms

Seville (Andalusia), 12 December 2020 (SPS) - The fourteenth edition of the International Encounters of Arts and Human Rights of the Western Sahara (ARTifariti) kicked off today vía online platforms, with the participation of artists and human rights defenders from various countries of the world.
Held virtually throughout the weekend in Sevilla, Maputo, Mexico City, and Saharawi Refugee Camps, this year’s edition was set to take place on November 2020 in the liberated Saharawi zones, before being canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Germany and Canada support UN-sponsored definitive solution to Western Sahara issue

Berlin (Germany), 12 December 2020 (SPS) - The Federal Government of Germany confirmed its steadfast position regarding the conflict of Western Sahara, in its commentary on Trump’s decision recognizing Morocco’s alleged sovereignty over the Western Sahara.
In a press release on Friday, German government reaffirmed its traditional stance in supporting a just, durable, acceptable and political negotiated solution under the auspices of the United Nations.

New York (UN), 12 December 2020 (SPS) - The United Nations General Assembly on Thursday unanimously approved a new resolution calling for the completion of the decolonization process in Western Sahara.
The resolution affirmed the United Nations responsibility towards the people of Western Sahara, waiting to be enabled to exercise its right to self-determination and independence.
The resolution welcomed the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to find a solution that would ensure the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara.

New York (United Nations) 11 December 2020 (SPS)- United Nations position on Western Sahara remains unchanged despite position voiced by outgoing US President, Donald Trump, indicated UN Secretary General’s Spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, yesterday evening.

Bir Lehlou (Liberated Territories), 9 December 2020 (SPS) - The Moroccan assault which has continued since 1975 against the Sahrawi people has caused an "overall and lasting instability" throughout the region, Sahrawi Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Salek said on Tuesday.
In a statement to the press, Ould Salek indicated that "the Moroccan Kingdom which has crossed the limits, through its continuing assault since 1975 against the Sahrawi people, has created an overall and lasting instability in the whole region."
