Vigil in Assa to demand Saharawi detainees’ release

Assa (southern Morocco), Feb 13, 2014 (SPS) - A vigil was organized in the town of Assa (southern Morocco) to demand the release of all Saharawi detainees incarcerated in the prisons of Moroccan occupation.


The peaceful sit-in, held on Wednesday, saw the participation of the Saharawi society’s different segments.


The protesters waved Saharawi flags and chanted slogans denouncing Moroccan violations of human rights carried out against the defenseless Saharawi citizens.

SADR takes part at 2nd High Level Meeting of Africa-EU Energy Partnership

Addis Ababa, Feb 13, 2014 (SPS) - A Saharawi delegation takes part at the Second High Level Meeting of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership, took place on 12-13 February in Addis Ababa, in the presence of more than 350 participants.


The Saharawi delegation is composed of Mr. Lamine Baali, permanent representative to the AU and ambassador in Ethiopia, Mr. Baba Omar Al-Bardi, first secretary at SADR embassy in Addis Ababa, and the engineer Ali Lehbib Legdaf, from the Saharawi directorate of energy.

Spanish Supreme Court hears witnesses in Western Sahara mass graves case

Madrid, Feb 13, 2014 (SPS) - The Supreme Court of Spain heard yesterday, Wednesday, the testimonies of the Spanish forensic experts; Carlos Martín Beristain and Paco Etxeberria, who discovered the remains of 8 Saharawi persons found in two mass graves in the region of Mheiriz in Western Sahara last June.


The Court also heard the testimony of Selma Daf Mahmud, who survived the incident, also brother of two of the 8 persons found in these mass graves.

Almada mayor voices support to Saharawi people’s self-determination

Almada (Portugal), Feb 13, 2014 (SPS) - Mayor of the Portuguese Municipality of Almada Mr. Joaquín Judas has voiced his support to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence, pledging to aware about the Saharawi cause in Almada.


In a meeting with the Polisario Front’s Representative in Portugal Mr. Ahmed Fal Mohamed on Wednesday, Mr. Judas expressed support to the legitimate struggle of the Saharawi people to regain sovereignty.

Norwegian NGO denounces human rights situation in Western Sahara

Algiers, Feb 13, 2014 (SPS) - The non-governmental organization Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) published a new report about the Saharawi issue on its website in which it particularly lamented the Moroccan violations of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.


Entitled “Occupied Country, displaced people,” the report also laid bare the inability of the international community to help the Sahrawi people to exercise their legitimate right to self-determination.

Algeria adhered to Saharawi people’s right to self-determination, says Lamamra

Moscow, Feb 13, 2014 (SPS) - The Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ramtan Lamamra has underlined that his country “adhered to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, in accordance with UN doctrine through negotiations between the two parties to the conflict, namely the Kingdom of Morocco and Polisario Front.”

Saharawi prisoner Mohamed Daoudi sentenced to 2 years in prison

Agadir (Morocco), Feb 13, 2014 (SPS) - The young Saharawi Mohamed Daoudi, son of the political prisoner Mbarek Daoudi, was unjustly sentenced Wednesday by the Moroccan criminal court in the city of Agadir to two years in prison, according to a source from the occupied Western Sahara.


The same source indicated that the verdict, pronounced by show Moroccan trial, was merely based on a political background.

President of Republic demands UN action to stop Morocco’s repression in Western Sahara

Four young Saharawis arrested by Moroccan occupying authorities

Sidi Ifni (southern Morocco), Feb 12, 2014 (SPS) - Four young Saharawis have been arrested Tuesday by Moroccan occupying authorities in the city of Sidi Ifni in southern Morocco, after they were due to take part at a reception ceremony for lately freed Saharawi prisoners, informed a rights source.


The four young Saharawis are: Mohamed Jamour, Sidi Sbai and Bachir Boumoud, who are members of El Aaiun branch of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights, in addition to Hafed Toubali, former political prisoner.

Algeria, Russia for intensification of efforts to implement UN resolution on Western Sahara

Moscow, Feb 12, 2014 (SPS) - Algeria and Russia have called for intensifying efforts so to implement the relevent UN resolutions on Western Sahara, expressing support to the efforts undertaken by the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross.


During talks between the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra, and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow, Algeria and Russia expressed their support to the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross.

162 candidates to run for Saharawi National Council, says Khaddad

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Feb 11, 2014 (SPS) - The President of the preparatory committee for the elections of Saharawi parliament’s members Mr. Mhamed Khaddad has declared that 162 candidates confirmed to run for the Saharawi National Council (parliament).


In a press conference held today at the media archive in the Saharawi Ministry of Information, Khaddad said that the Constitutional Council has approved the final list of the candidates to run for the 54 seats in the Saharawi National Council (Parliament).

SADR takes part at African Conference of Police Chiefs and Inspectors General

The conference is organized by the Directorate General of the Algerian National Police (DGSN).

Zimbabwe concerned over Morocco’s continued occupation of Western Sahara

Harare, Feb 11, 2014 (SPS) - Senior Minister of State in the Zimbabwean President’s Office H.E. Mr. Simon Khaya Moyo has expressed “concern” over the continuation of Moroccan occupation in Western Sahara, asking to halt the “heinous crimes” committed by Moroccan authorities against innocent Saharawis.


In a meeting held today at his office in Harare with the Saharawi Ambassador Mr. Deich Mohamed Saleh, Mr. Moyo voiced his government and party’s concern over Morocco’s continued occupation of Saharawi Republic territories.

Spanish judge to extend prosecution against senior Moroccan military officials for crimes in Western Sahara

Madrid, Feb 11, 2014 (SPS) - Judge Pablo Rafael Ruz Guitierrez of the Spanish Supreme Court intends to extend prosecution against senior Moroccan military officials involved in the death of Saharawi citizens in 1976.


The lawsuit was brought by Domingo José Collado Molinero representing the Spanish Association of Human Rights, in which he included the results of the investigation into the responsibility of Moroccans in the execution of 8 Saharawis, discovered last year in mass graves in Fedrat Lagueaa in Western Sahara.

President of Republic urges UN to assume its responsibilities

Aghwinit (Liberated Territories) February 10, 2014 (SPS) - President of Republic Secretary General of the Polisario Front has called on the United Nations to assume its responsibilities in Western Sahara, in an interview with Algerian National Radio, Channel 1.  

 

He emphasised that the UN credibility will be "damaged" if it does not consider the monitoring of human rights within the prerogatives of its mission for the referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).

Photography exhibition on Sahrawi women struggle in occupied territories
