Coordination Mechanism for Human Rights Action expresses solidarity with Moroccan human rights defender Aziz Ghali

Occupied El Aaiun, December 19, 2024 (SPS) - The Coordination Mechanism for Human Rights Action in the occupied territories of Western Sahara expressed its solidarity with the Moroccan international human rights defender Aziz Ghali, condemning the occupation's policy aimed at silencing free voices advocating for human rights.

The Coordination Mechanisms in El Aaiun, Smara, Boujdour, and Dakhla issued a statement, a copy of which was obtained by SPS, denouncing the ongoing use of Moroccan intelligence agencies to employ paid writers and their non-independent media to undermine free voices defending indivisible human rights and the right of peoples to freedom and self-determination.

The statement called on all international human rights organizations to pressure Morocco to respect human rights in the occupied part of Western Sahara, as it is a signatory and ratifier of international human rights treaties and covenants, particularly the two international covenants on civil and political rights and economic, social, and cultural rights, which affirm the right of peoples to self-determination and sovereignty over their natural resources.
