Lyon (France), 7 December 2024 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary General, Brahim Ghali, has decided to award the late Gilles Devers, the lawyer for the Polisario Front before European courts, the "Highest Honor of International Solidarity" in recognition of his "significant role in supporting the Sahrawi cause and achieving its legal victories," as confirmed by the Polisario Front's representative in Switzerland and the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, Ubbi Bushraya Bashir.

Mr. Ubbi Bushraya Bashir added, in a speech delivered during the memorial for the late Gilles Devers last Thursday, that an event will be organized later in the Sahrawi refugee camps in memory of the deceased, and his family and friends will be invited to attend.

Mr. Ubbi Bushraya Bashir, who led the Sahrawi delegation during the memorial service, expressed condolences to everyone, emphasizing that the Sahrawi people will remain forever grateful to a man who "championed the Sahrawi cause with professional competence and high ability as an accomplished lawyer, and carried its just message with fluency and conviction as a committed activist and fierce defender in all forums."

The French lawyer, an advocate for the just causes of peoples, Gilles Devers, passed away on November 26 after a battle with a serious illness.
