Occupied El Aaiun, November 19, 2024 (SPS) - Sahrawi journalist and coordinator of Equip Media, Mohammed Mayara, was subjected to a brutal assault today, Tuesday, by agents of the Moroccan security forces, reported Equip Media website. 

According to the site, Mohammed Mayara was attacked around 9 a.m. local time in occupied El Aaiun by men in civilian clothing who were riding a motorcycle and spoke with a clear Moroccan accent. 

He stated that the assailants attacked him violently and without warning, indicating that the assault was orchestrated by the Moroccan security apparatus. Mohammed Mayara is currently in the hospital undergoing preliminary examinations. 

The violent attack on journalist Mohammed Mayara is seen as a clear retaliation for his journalistic, media, and human rights activities, as well as his political stances and opinions regarding the occupation of Western Sahara and the exploitation of its natural resources.
