Massive demonstration in Madrid in Solidarity with Sahrawi People's Struggle and denouncing continuation of Moroccan occupation

Madrid (Spain), November 16, 2024 (SPS) - Thousands of Spanish demonstrators and the Sahrawi community in Spain participated Saturday in solidarity demonstrations in the capital, Madrid, supporting the Sahrawi people's struggle and condemning the ongoing Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara.

The demonstrators carried flags of the Sahrawi Republic and banners reaffirming the Sahrawi people's right to freedom and independence.

The protesters condemned the official Spanish stance on the Western Sahara issue, considering Spain as the colonial power responsible for the territory, holding it legally and historically accountable for the Sahrawi people's plight and its just cause.

They also denounced the Madrid Tripartite Agreement and its consequences for the Sahrawi people due to the Moroccan invasion, which committed crimes against humanity, the effects of which the Sahrawi people continue to suffer to this day.

The demonstration included  speech platform, where speakers from various associations, supporters, and representatives of the Spanish solidarity movement emphasized the ongoing defense of the Sahrawi people's rights through various legitimate means.

It is worth noting that Spanish solidarity associations with the Sahrawi people organize this demonstration annually in coordination with the representation of the Polisario Front in Spain, to remind Madrid of its historical responsibilities towards its former colony, Western Sahara, and to draw global attention to the continued Moroccan occupation in the region.
