Sahrawi government condemns killing of Sahrawi citizen by Moroccan occupation forces

Shaheed Al-Hafid, November 12, 2024 (SPS) - The Sahrawi government expressed its condemnation of the Moroccan occupation authorities' killing  of Sahrawi citizen Omar Bhia Hassan.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad, the Sahrawi government affirmed that the systematic continuation of the Moroccan occupation’s crimes against Sahrawi civilians in the occupied part of Western Sahara constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

This situation imposes on the United Nations, which has been present since 1991, the obligation to intervene and open an independent international investigation into the circumstances and conditions of the arrest and death of Sahrawi detainee Omar Bhia Hassan, as well as other fatalities that have claimed the lives of dozens of Sahrawi citizens. Some were killed by live ammunition, such as the cases of Sahrawi martyrs Najim Garhi, Rachid Shain, Saeed Damber, among others, the statement added.
