Castelnovo Ne' Monti (Italy) 12 October 2024 (SPS) - The municipality of Castelnovo Ne' Monti in the Reggio Emilia province of Italy signed a twinning and friendship agreement with the Daira of Lamssid, Wilaya of Boujdour in the Sahrawi Republic, marking a historic step that reflects the strengthening of solidarity and international relations.
This twinning coincides with the Sahrawi people's celebration of the 49th anniversary of national unity, which commemorates the declaration on October 12, 1975, of the unification of the sons and daughters of the Sahrawi people under the leadership of the Polisario Front to confront Moroccan occupation and to break the colonial conspiracy against Western Sahara at that time.
The partnership aims to enhance and expand the relations of friendship and solidarity between the Italian and Sahrawi peoples, who share historical values of friendship and cooperation.
It also seeks to promote cultural exchange and humanitarian relations between the two municipalities within the framework of building a more just, peaceful, and democratic world based on the rule of law, security, and respect for peoples’ rights.
The twinning agreement was signed by Fatima Mahfoud, the Representative of the Polisario Front in Italy, on behalf of the Daira of Lamssid, while Mr. Emanuele Ferrari signed on behalf of Castelnovo Ne' Monti during a ceremony held in the council chamber in the Municipality.
The agreement includes a commitment to expand mutual understanding and solidarity relations, exchange social and cultural experiences, as well as launching cooperation projects for development and hospitality. (SPS)
