Polisario Front recalls that UN-African Settlement Plan is “practical and realistic” solution to resolve conflict in Western Sahara

Dakhla refugee camp, September 29, 2024 (SPS) - The National Secretariat of the Polisario Front confirmed that the UN-African Settlement Plan of 1991 is the “practical and realistic” solution to resolve the conflict in Western Sahara.

The National Secretariat, in a statement concluding the work of its fifth ordinary session in the wilaya of Dakhla, and when addressing the efforts of the United Nations to decolonize the last colony in Africa, stated that “the 1991 UN-African Settlement Plan, which was accepted by the two parties to the conflict, the Polisario Front and Morocco, and unanimously approved by the UN Security Council, is the only “practical and realistic” solution based on consensus to the Western Sahara conflict”.

The National Secretariat also stated, before the UN Security Council meeting on the Sahrawi issue next October, that obstructing the exercise of the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination will remain the responsibility of the United Nations and its mission, and that the procrastination and obstacles that hinder this will lead to further threats to security and stability.

At the same time, it warned of the danger of ignoring the practices of the Morocco’s Makhzen regime at the level of the continental organization and its relations with its partners, calling for an end to the shameful Moroccan violations, such as those witnessed at the last TICAD Ministerial Conference in Japan, which go against the norms, values and decisions of the African Union, and threaten its unity, coherence and credibility.
