South African Communist Party calls for intensified action to end Morocco's occupation of Western Sahara

South Africa, September 17, 2024 (SPS) - The South African Communist Party has called for intensified action to end Morocco's occupation of Western Sahara and to build a continental African popular movement in solidarity with the Sahrawi people.

In a statement issued by the party on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the South African Communist Party reaffirmed its support for the Sahrawi people in their just struggle for fundamental rights, including self-determination, democratic national sovereignty, and other basic freedoms.

The party also expressed its strong condemnation of the French position in recognizing the so-called sovereignty of Morocco over Western Sahara.

The statement called on the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara and the African Union to expedite the process of holding a referendum on the self-determination of the Sahrawi people.
