Polisario Front reaffirms ending current situation requires strict application of international legitimacy

Shaheed Al Hafed, August 20, 2024 (SPS) - The Polisario Front has reaffirmed that ending the current situation and the ongoing conflict since 1975, when Spain abandoned its responsibilities towards its former colony Western Sahara, and Morocco's insistence on continuing its illegal occupation, will only be achieved through the strict and resolute application of international legitimacy.

These resolutions place the right to self-determination and the determination of the final status, including sovereignty and control over the region's natural resources, solely in the hands of the Sahrawi people. This makes any interference in these matters a futile and misplaced intrusion from a legal, political, diplomatic, and field perspective.

In a statement that concluded the meeting of the Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat, chaired by Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, President of the Republic, Mr. Brahim Ghali, the Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front stressed the binding responsibility of the United Nations to follow up and complete the process of decolonization of Western Sahara and enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their full right to self-determination and independence.
