Bir Lahlou (Liberated Territories) August 13, 2024 (SPS)- The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, sent a message of condolence to the family of the great friend of the Sahrawi people, the late Emmanuel Martinoli, who fought for the freedom and right of the Sahrawi people to independence.
“We received with great sadness and sorrow the news of the death of Mr. Emmanuel Martinoli, a distinguished man who gave much of his life to supporting and defending the just cause of the Sahrawi people”, said the message of condolences.
The President added that the passing of Emmanuel Martinoli represents a great loss, expressing on his own behalf and on behalf of the Sahrawi government and people his heartfelt condolences and sympathy to Mrs. Martinoli-Katz, her children and the friends of the deceased.
The President of the Republic referred to the great role played by the deceased in raising awareness about the struggle of the Sahrawi people at a crucial moment in their history, specifically with the start of the United Nations peace process and its involvement in organizing a referendum for self-determination in Western Sahara.
In this context, the President recalled the establishment of the Association for Support of a Free and Fair Referendum in Western Sahara (ARSO) and its website under the same name, stressing that it was a prominent landmark in the history of the international solidarity movement with the Sahrawi people.
The President concluded his message to the family of the deceased by saying: “With the death of Mr. Martinoli, the Sahrawi people have lost a tireless defender of their cause and a fundamental pillar of solidarity with our people in Switzerland and the world at large”.
