Luanda (Angola), 1 June 2024 (SPS) - Sahrawi Ambassador to the Republics of Angola and Namibia, Mr. Hamdi Khalil Miara, was received Friday by the Angolan Foreign Minister, Mr. Téte António, at the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Luanda.

According to a statement issued by the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks focused on issues and related to bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Angola and the Sahrawi Republic, in addition to renewing common positions on a number of continental and regional issues.

During discussions on peace and security issues in Africa and current challenges, the Sahrawi Ambassador to Angola praised the level of political governance and diplomatic skill that characterizes the Angolan President, Mr. João Manuel Lourenço, who the African Union has appointed to lead peace and reconciliation efforts in Africa.

The Angolan Foreign Ministry statement drew attention to the historical background that distinguishes the Sahrawi issue as a territory included in the United Nations list of non-self-governing territories, explaining the geographical and political situation of the territory.

The statement added that the Sahrawi Republic, which is a member country of the African Union, has distinguished bilateral relations with the Republic of Angola.
