Algiers, 16 April 2024 (SPS) - Algerian minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, held bilateral discussions at Algeria's UN Mission's office, on Tuesday, with UN Secretary-General's personal envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, as part of his working visit to New York, the ministry said in a statement.
"The discussions focused on UN steps and efforts to relaunch the political process with the participation of the parties to the conflict, namely the Polisario Front and the Kingdom of Morocco, to reach a political solution ensuring Western Sahara people's right to self-determination," the statement said.
"The special envoy is expected to submit a report to the Security Council on the developments of the issue, during tonight's UNSC meeting, devoted to Western Sahara issue.
Attaf also received, at the Algerian UN Mission's office, the US Deputy Under Secretary of State for North Africa and Middle East Affairs, Joshua Harris, who is the American official in charge of monitoring Western Sahara issue, the statement said.
"The two sides exchanged views on the latest developments of the issue and the expected outcome of the UN Security Council's meeting."
