German political organizations delegation visits Sahrawi refugee camps

Shaheed El Hafed, April 13, 2024 (SPS) - Starting from Saturday, a delegation from German political, development, women's, and student organizations embarks on a solidarity and fact-finding visit to the Sahrawi refugee camps and institutions of the Sahrawi state.

The program of the German delegation's visit, which extends for a whole week, includes organizing visits and meetings with various national political, human rights, social, and humanitarian entities. The delegation will also hold meetings with popular organizations and components of the Sahrawi civil society.

The purpose of the solidarity visit is to assess the political situation and the obstacles to the completion of decolonization in Western Sahara, especially after the blatant violation by Morocco of the ceasefire in November 2020 and its ruin of the ceasefire agreement concluded with the Polisario Front in 1991. The delegation also aims to evaluate the humanitarian situation of Sahrawi refugees in light of the decline in international humanitarian aid due to the global economic crisis and the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a statement issued by the organizers, the visit also aims to gain a close understanding of the ways to support the Sahrawi people and enhance international solidarity with their just struggle to achieve their rights, as guaranteed by international law, including the right to self-determination and independence.
